On September 16, 2025, the American Antitrust Institute (AAI) announced that Laura Alexander, Slade Bond, and Michael Kades have joined the AAI Advisory Board. Professor Laura Alexander is assistant professor of law at the Michael E. Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, with deep expertise in antitrust law and civil procedure. Slade Bond is chair of Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca’s Public Policy and Legislative Affairs practice with more than a decade of experience in Congress and the Department of Justice. Michael Kades is antitrust partner at Nachawati Law Group and has over two decades of experience in competition law and enforcement at the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission.
“We are delighted that Laura, Slade, and Michael have joined the AAI Advisory Board,” said AAI President Randy Stutz. “Each brings deep knowledge and expertise of antitrust law and competition policy, and each brings the wisdom of experience from having served in high-level leadership positions in government,” Stutz said. AAI’s volunteer Advisory Board consists of outstanding experts in the fields of antitrust law, economics, and business in the United States and abroad.
Laura Alexander is assistant professor of law at the Michael E. Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University. Prior to joining the faculty at Ohio State, she was a deputy director of the Bureau of Competition at the United States Federal Trade Commission. She also has deep ties to AAI, having served as its vice president of policy before joining the FTC. She was formerly a partner at Cohen, Milstein, Sellers & Toll and an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center. After law school, she clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for Judge M. Margaret McKeown.
Slade Bond is Chair of the Public Policy practice at Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca, LLP. He previously held senior roles in both the Executive Branch and Congress, most recently serving as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legislative Affairs under Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. In that role, he managed the Department’s top legislative priorities and advised senior officials on policy, confirmations, and congressional oversight. Previously, he served as Chief Counsel of the House Antitrust Subcommittee, where he directed the landmark digital markets investigation and helped oversee the passage of 19 laws in just four years. He has lectured widely on antitrust law, the legislative process, and congressional oversight, including at Stanford Law School, Georgetown University Law Center, Yale School of Management, and Vanderbilt Law School.
Michael Kades is partner at Nachawati Law Group’s new antitrust practice focused on government entities. He was previously at the Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division, where he served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General focused on civil enforcement. During his tenure at the DOJ, he supervised investigations and litigation against large technology companies including Apple Inc., airline mergers, including American Airlines and JetBlue, financial services cases including Visa Inc., and agriculture enforcement actions. He spearheaded the Division’s successful effort to revitalize the Packers and Stockyards Act. Prior to the DOJ, Kades was director for markets and competition policy at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. He also worked as antitrust counsel for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), on detail from the Federal Trade Commission, where he spent 20 years as an attorney investigating and litigating antitrust actions.
