Wayne State University Law Professor Stephen Calkins will offer observations on the year in international antitrust at the AAI International Roundtable on Wednesday, February 8, in Washington D.C. 

The American Antitrust Institute (AAI) announced today that its Board of Directors has unanimously elected Pamela Gilbert as its new Chair, effective January 1, 2017. Ms. Gilbert has been a Member of the AAI Board of Directors since 2010.

The results of AAI’s seminal project on Entrepreneurship and Antitrust were published in a special symposium issue of the Antitrust Bulletin. AAI Director and Senior Fellow Gregory T. Gundlach and AAI President Diana Moss are guest editors for the issue, which appears at Antitrust Bulletin 2016, Vol. 61(4). The project was made possible by a grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

As we approach year end, the AAI looks back at all we were able to achieve in promoting our competition agenda through education, research, and advocacy. Our important work demonstrates that we continue to be the leading non-profit organization to frame and advance progressive competition enforcement and policy.

On February 22, 2017, the American Antitrust Institute and Navigant Economics hosted a Healthcare Roundtable where experts from government, academia, industry, and advocacy discussed major competition enforcement and policy issues facing the healthcare industry. The Healthcare Roundtable focused on competitive issues and challenges in healthcare markets, ranging from providers, to insurers, and pharmaceuticals. The discussion helped frame the debate on key issues, including promoting rivalry, innovation, and consumer choice. The analysis presented at the Healthcare Roundtable will contribute to a special upcoming issue of the journal Research in Law and Economics. 

The American Antitrust Institute 2016 Antitrust Enforcement Awards recognized achievements in antitrust litigation by legal practitioners and economists.  The Awards were presented at a gala dinner on November 9, 2016 following the AAI’s Annual Private Antitrust Enforcement Conference.  

The American Antitrust Institute (AAI) filed comments in response to a request by the Antitrust Division (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for public comment on proposed revisions to the agencies’ guidelines for international enforcement and cooperation.

The full list of speakers is in for AAI’s 2016 Airline Roundtable - The Changing Airline Competition Agenda. Experts in antitrust and regulation from government, industry, advocacy, and academia will discuss major competition issues facing the airline industry and consumers of air travel on December 14 in Washington DC.

In comments to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Docket RM16-21, the AAI offered suggestions on how the Commission can update and improve its analysis of competitive issues in electric utility merger applications and requests for market-based rate authority.
