On Wednesday, March 16, AAI President Diana Moss discussed the antitrust implications of the Anthem-Cigna and Aetna-Humana health insurance mergers currently under review by the U.S. Department of Justice. The briefing was hosted by the Coalition to Protect Patient Choice.
AAI Advisory Board member David A. Balto moderated the session that also featured Topher Sprio, Vice President of Health Policy at the Center for American Progress, and Lynn Quincy, Director of Healthcare Value Hub at Consumers. The panel examined mergers in the health insurance markets and their impacts on consumers and providers.
In a January 2016 letter to the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division, the AAI outlined the myriad competitive and consumer concerns surrounding the proposed health insurance mergers of Anthem-Cigna and Aetna-Humana. The letter was co-authored by AAI Advisor Tim Greaney, Chester A.
