The American Antitrust Institute (AAI) filed an amicus brief in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals urging the court to reverse the dismissal of a complaint alleging that power tool manufacturers had abused the standard setting process of Underwriters Laboratories to exclude a safety technology for table saws that would greatly lessen the consequence of blade contact injuries. The brief, which was joined by the National Consumers League, argued that the lower court had failed properly to take into account the precedent establishing that competitors violate the antitrust laws when they corrupt the standard setting process to block technologies and products for anticompetitive purposes.
The brief was written by Seth Greenstein and David Golden of Constantine Cannon.
