Highlighting one of the hottest issues in antitrust law, the American Antitrust Institute’s 6th annual conference focuses on antitrust remedies. The AAI conference takes place as antitrust remedies are coming under renewed scrutiny from antitrust practitioners and critics. For example, the Antitrust Modernization Commission is currently reviewing key remedial issues such as treble damages and consumer class actions.
Former U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, who presided over the federal Microsoft antitrust case, will deliver the keynote address on the remedy phase of the landmark case in which he had ordered the breakup of Microsoft that was rejected on appeal.
Jonathan Leibowitz, the most recently appointed Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission, will speak about the evolution of federal remedies.
Former FTC General Counsels Stephen Calkins and William Kovacic will address a luncheon audience as the AAI’s Antitrust Achievement Award is presented to outgoing FTC Commissioner Thomas B. Leary. Leary, a Republican, will speak about the bipartisan legacy of antitrust.
The morning sessions of the conference will also feature presentations by Professor Eleanor Fox of NYU, John Connor of Purdue, Robert Lande of the University of Baltimore, class action litigator J. Douglas Richards, and breakout sessions on creative federal enforcement remedies, class action remedies, and divesting intellectual property assets.
