On March 3, 2009, AAI held its 9th Annual Energy Roundtable: Competition Challenges in Electricity Markets: Private Equity Financing and Market Design discussing the major competitive issues associated with private equity investment in the electricity sector and the design of electricity markets.

Read the summary of the discussions here.

The panel presentations and discussion at this year’s roundtable provided the opportunity to accomplish two objectives:
1. Explore the major competitive issues associated with private equity financing in the electricity sector and develop appropriate analytical approaches and policy options.
2. Assess current issues and policy options for electricity market design, with a particular focus on developing incentives for efficient pricing and entry.
The morning session focused on the competitive implications of private equity investment in the electricity sector.  The afternoon session focused on the major competitive issues surrounding market design.

The AAI thanks the sponsors of this event:
·       American Public Power Association
·       National Rural Electric Cooperative Association
