Today, American Antitrust Institute President Bert Foer sent a letter to the presidential campaigns of Governor Mitt Romney and Senator Rick Santorum seeking their views of the role of antitrust in the U.S. and world economy. During the 2008 Presidential election campaign, the AAI asked the various Democratic and Republican candidates for their views on antitrust. Candidate Obama’s thoughtful reply has often been quoted in the time since he was elected and can be read here. The AAI is particularly interested in the candidates' positions in light of a bill introduced this week by Republican Senator Rand Paul -- S. 2269 "The Anti-Trust Freedom Act" -- that would eliminate virtually all of the nation's historic antitrust laws.
