Presentations From AAI's 8th Annual Energy Roundtable: The Role of Competition in Ensuring Future Resource Adequacy in U.S. Electricity Markets3/11/2008 On Monday, March 3, 2008, the American Antitrust Institute hosted its 8th Annual Energy Roundtable: The Role of Competition in Ensuring Future Resource Adequacy in U.S. Electricity Markets. Experts in antitrust and regulation from government, industry, academia, and advocacy gathered to discuss key issues in electricity restructuring. The panel presentations and discussion at this year’s roundtable was focused on two objectives:
1. Identify the major issues associated with adding needed resources to the electric power system in the U.S. These issues will revolve around the constraints and opportunities created by regulatory and environmental initiatives, policies and market conditions governing centralized (i.e., RTO-based) and bilateral markets, and the accuracy of price signals and other market conditions that are critical in stimulating entry into electricity markets.
2. Identify the policy priorities and options surrounding resource adequacy that are most important in facilitating competitive outcomes in electricity markets. These priorities are likely to focus on market design and its effect on entry barriers and incentives facing existing and potential entrants.
